Hello, :)

I have a desktop computer with the 2WIRE DSL modem from Yahoo! SBC for my internet connection. I also have a laptop that I use to connect to the internet. My laptop is connected to the internet using the laptops wireless Zero configuration connection, connecting me to my SBC DSL modem.

Sometimes my wireless network connection icon says "Not Connected" with the red "X", but I am still able to browse and connect to the internet. I have clicked on the icon and chose "Open Network Connections".

It says in there that the only active connection is the "1394 Connection" and that the "Local Area Connection" is unplugged(which I don't use anyway) and that my "Wireless Network Connection" is "Not Connected".

I even disabled the 1394 Conection and still have internet access.
In my "Wireless Network Connection Properties" under "Wireless Networks" I have my connection to my SBC DSL modem listed in my preferred networks and chose to automatically connect to that connection. There are no other connections listed in "My Preferred Networks".

In advanced I have the box unchecked to allow anyone to access my computer, files, etc... in the "Internet Connection Sharing" area.

When I choose "View Wireless Networks" it lists several "hotspots" available to connect to, two security enabled and two with no security that I could connect to if I chose. Mine is WEP security enabled listed there too. It says I am not connected to any of the wireless connections in there and that the connection to my wireless connection is "Automatic" but "Not Conected".

I am firewalled with no exceptions and have McAfee under "Tight Security" for the firewall. In McAfee "View the Internet Applications List" there is nothing granted access out of the ordinary.

When I go to the command Promt for DOS and type in "Netstat" there are no active connections listed. I can also go to McAfee traffic monitor and there are no connections in there either.

I have Internet Explorer SP2 and an AOL account on this laptop.

There are no other cables/wires plugged into my laptop except for my mouse and my AC/DC power cord.

My question is, how can I have a connection to the internet if I have no active wireless connections (That I know of !) and my icon says not connected/no connection????

Is there some other interface on my computer that will tell me how, where and through what port/adapter I am actually connecting through????

Thanks for taking the time to read(and possibly answer) this!!!!!!!
