Hi All

I am looking for an easy upgrade solution of upgrading my Pentium 75 Processor to anything that is considerably faster and economical too.
Is there any advanced processor chip available that can be just plugged into the motherboard after taking the existing one out, I mean without changing the existing motherboard.

My computer is an AST computer,
Model: 501695-001 Advantage! 6075p Adventure 6000

with a
Processor: Intel Intel Pentium 75MHz Pentium SPGA 296

More details about my system can be found at http://www.ari-service.com/blender/cache/501695-001.htm

Please help me. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks and regards,
A Rubal

Welcome, a_rubal. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif You will have to get a OverDrive processor, maybe from Evergreen, if you want to keep your present set-up. The price/performance ratio may not be economical. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

I was at one time contemplating an upgrade to an AST Advantage 818 Pentium 133 machine to 333MHz...that being said...It was possible for about $80 through Evergreen Technologies www.evertech.com (http://www.evertech.com) I'm not sure it can be done with a chipset that only supports 75MHz, but you could give them a try. Seems costly though for what you could get a newer mobo/cpu combo for nowadays (IMO).

I'm not sure what you are wanting to do with the system once it is "speeded up" even if you could do it with an overdrive chip...but I will say that the best choice on a budget say under $300 is to find a decent used faster "box". You can probably get upwards of a 400 mhz computer (without monitor, kb, mouse) for about that price. The motherboard on your current PC is not worth trying to put a "faster" chip on.....the most you could put on it would probably be 100 mhz (Intel) ..the overdrive chips are too expensive to be worth messing with in my opinion....+ you would still have a 6+ year old motherboard which could go out at any time.
