I recently got a laptop and have heard from several places that the cards get better reception than the built in internal antennas. I also heard that not all cards are equal either. One that I heard was particuarly good was Orinoco. I heard this out loud, so I don't know how to spell it and have tried googling several different variations of that spelling with no luck.

So does anyone have a good wireless card to suggest and does anyone know Orinocos web site/proper spelling?

New to laptops my card slots is (1) Type II / Type I CardBus.

Thanks,

And yes, the quality of the card does have some impact on ragne/reception.

It is not entirely true that cards are always better than built ins, but just like everything else, it depends on the quality of the item in question.

My reading a short time ago on wireless turned my attention to the newly introduced 5GHz radio band. The 2.4 on most routers shares that frequency with a host of products (e.g., cordless phones, microwaves...).

I'd sure like to hear comments...
