Hello everyone, I am desparately seeking help to a problem I'm having.

My wireless network was working great until two days ago when all of a sudden it just QUIT. My wife on on the web and started getting page not found. When I plug the laptop into the rounter, somtimes I can access the internet, sometimes not (desktop plugged into the same rounter works fine). When I'm plugged in directly I can ping the router even when I can't access the internet.

When I check the status of the wireless connection I see the message that the network did not assign a network address to the computer. When I try to do an ipconfig /renew it tells me it's unable to contact my DHCP server (I've stoped and resarted the service on the laptop).

I've tried removing the driver and letting Windows re-install. What else can I try? I'm getting really frustrated.

What kind of connection to the internet do you have (cable/DSL/etc)?

Does your ISP have a set procedure for restarting/resetting the connection? have you tried that?

Have you reset the router?

I have DSL and I have reset the router. Not aware of any ISP procedures.

Often times they have things like power down your modem for X mins unplug this...plug in that at this time. That kind of thing.

You may want to contact your ISP to find out if they are having any general problems in your area, especially if you have had any recent storm activity.

I've gone through most of that type of stuff.

No storm or any thing - it jsut quit working right in the middle of surfing. Thats the wierd part.

Ok.

Do you have a software fire wall installed?

If so, check to make sure it is not blocking access to your router.

Just Windows firewall, and I've turned it off.

Here's something interesting. When I try to repair the 1394 connection, I get the message "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection", but TCP/IP is checked when I go to properties.

Just a thought, have you run all scans for viruses, trojan's, worms, spyware, dialer hijackers?
LG;)

You may also want to try a new cable.

I just installed Norton last week and it ran a full scan then and everything was clean. I think I'm okay there, but it wouldn't hurt to run the spyware checker again I guess.

I went as far as to do a system restore to a point before this all started happening and that got me nowhere. I think I'm going to buy a wireless network card and see if that works. I'm really starting to suspect it's a problem with the internal wireless card.
