applying thermal paste

Hi,
I have a sony Vaio k33 Laptop
It has been known for all sorts of heating issues.
The thing that is bugging me right now is is the noise.
I think that this maybe due to the fact that it's getting hot.
So I was thinking of applying thermal paste to the cpu.
Is that possible with this laptop?

I would imagine that you could put thermal paste on the CPU of most laptops, assuming that you could get the HSF off. I'm not an expert with Vaios, so I couldn't tell you whether you can access the HSF sufficiently/easily, but I think so. Because there is no "cap" on the CPU, I would highly recommend Arctic Ceramique/Alumina. Any non-conductive, non-capacitative paste will work, but those are widely known to be the best.

Also, if you can take apart your laptop somewhat thoroughly (you have my good luck on that), you may find that your laptop has a heatpipe cooler. In that case, I would remove that completely, dissasemble it, purify both sides where the pipe contacts the metal, and apply Arctic Silver 5, being careful not to put too much on so that it oozes out the sides. Then put it back in and use whatever non-conductive/capacitative paste you like to stick it back on to the processor.

Another thing you may be able to do is "teach" your fan. Enter BIOS, and look for an option like, "PC Fan Learning". If there are any other "learning" options, you should probably run them, too. My laptop has options for fan learning and battery learning, and I believe that they are under "PC Health".

when i enter BIOS, there isn't an option for what u mentioned.
It says PhoenixBios or something like that on the top, but there's only a few options.
What should I do?

hmmm...See if you can find out what motherboard is in your laptop by poking around a bit or googling, and try to find an updated BIOS. Then follow the instructions on how to install it, reboot, load windows, reboot again, and see if there are any more options. I'll do a bit of searching about and see if I cn come up with your mobo model and hopefully the BIOS flash.

EDIT: Whoops! doesn't look like you get much for your money, and no fan learning. I roll back to my earlier reccomendation of opening the computer up (I hope you don't like warranties) and re-greasing the cooler with a good non-conductive paste like Arctic Alumina (//www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835100009)

I found this at the website you showed, but I have to pay 30 dollars to find out the update i need. Is there any thing for free?

Good $hit! that oughtta do the ticket. If there is still no kind of fan-learning program to run, then take a look for something like AMD's Cool 'n Quiet. If that's not there, then boot the computer and look in Power Options in the control panel for anything to reduce he heat output of your computer or to adjust the fan OR CPU speeds. If nothing shows up, then the only thing remaining is either void your warranty and grease up that cooler with some Ceramique, or you could buy a laptop cooler pad (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834999362). If you do buy a cooler pad, MAKE SURE to buy one that you can reverse the fans on to blow TOWARD your laptop, as it is absolutely ret@rded to run them the other way, because that sets up a contradicting airflow between the pad fans and the CPU fan and not only makes the CPU fan louder, but reduces the life of it as well.
