I am trying to set up a linksys WRT54G broadband router. Have followed the instructions supplied but keep getting error message "Can not get a IP address from PPPoE server. The ISP server is Cable and Wireless. The modem is wired to the router internet port and then the pc is in one of the 4 router ports. Have tried DHCP but no connection there either. I can connect direct from computer to modem but when I try through the router - nothing. Any help greatly appreciated.

You must go into the firmware of the router and change the connection from PPPoE which is for DSL only to direct connection to the Internet or Cable depending on the verbiage in the latest version of the firmware.

Have tried direct connection but also does not work. Can ping the router but cannot get access to the net. The router has the cable direct from the modem. then one port from router is connected to the computer's ethernet (port 2 on router). Using DCHP but no access. Any other suggestions.

You must go into the firmware of the router and change the connection from PPPoE which is for DSL only to direct connection to the Internet or Cable depending on the verbiage in the latest version of the firmware.

If you DSL with PPPoE you must change it to PPPoE and enter the user name and password. It will not work with direct connection. The setup must match the type of connection you have.

Linksys tech-support has worked well for me. I would suggest giving them a call...making sure to write down everything they have you do so that you'll be able to duplicate it if you run into a problem again...
