It's called BUDDY BACKUP (http://www.databarracks.com/buddybackup/default.asp).
Needs WinXP and a broadband connection. :(
I had hoped I could use...
Ummmm...
Knoppix loaded from its bootable CD say, to fetch a backup from a "Buddy" PC when Windows won't boot.
Then use a bootable CD or floppy to restore the image backup to get Windows working again.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm running Win98SE and have a broadband connection.
Since it requires some specialized software, probably not going to work with 98 and very doubtful any flavor of 'Nix. I'm willing to bet that the software relies on some native feature of XP to do what it does...

From the FAQ's Page http://www.databarracks.com/buddybackup/support/faqs/
QWhat operating systems does BuddyBackup run on?
ACurrently it will only run on Microsoft Windows XP. However, this is only a short term restriction and the final version will be available on a variety of platforms including Linux and Mac

"on a variety of platforms including Linux and Mac"
Linux would be useful; I could install it in my dual boot Xandros-Linux and use that to retrieve a backup to restore Windows [or vice-versa].
It would be good if it was included in Knoppix on its bootable CD.

The future may well be WebDav (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV) in which case you wouldn't need buddies - just access to a web server...and if one could map a drive letter to the distant folder one could quite easily setup automatic backups with programs like DataKeeper or SecondCopy!!
It looks as if the program is using WinXP's native "remote desktop" to effectively file-share and in all probability the future developments of the program will be doing just that.
