Ok i need help i cant play battlefield 1942 on my new monitor.
It played fine on my old piece of rubbish CRT monitor and it wont display at all on my new Benq FP71G+ 8MS LCD monitor at all.
Im not the best at messing around with settings on Monitors so i dont wana risk it.
Can anyone help me?PLEASE :(
Probably more of a game settings change needed here than a monitor settings change...can you get into the games config screens? If so try setting to the most basic graphics options and then work your way back to something both looks good and works well.

I cant see anything. As soon as i open the game the monitor displays a black screen with a message "Out Of Reach" and i can still hear everything in the background.I can hear the start cutscene play etc.
And i didnt have to toggle with the setting for it to play on my old monitor in either the game OR the monitor.
This is beyond me as im sure 8ms is well fast enough to play BF as my old monitor wasnt anywhere near as good or new as this. And im sure if it was a little bit too slow i would still see something.
Any other suggestions?
It is plenty fast enough, but the chosen game resolution and the new lcd monitor don't mesh...basically you have the game set to a resolution the monitor does't support.
You may need to plug your old monitor back in to change the resolution.

Ok but i have the Res on this monitor set the same as i had the old one set to.1024x768 i never messed around with the in-game configurations at all.
I didnt even know you could. So how can i fix this?
Would a re-install work?As i cant see sticking the disc in the other machine connected to that monitor now doing any good as its not going to save the settings to the disc
Please god tell me i can fix this as otherwise i cant play BF anymore :( :(

Ooh... It's been a long time since I played BF 1942. Does that game have a separate config tool that you can run outside of the game? If so, you'll have to change the video setting to "1024 x 768 x 60Hz". That 60Hz part is the important part. That's the refresh rate. If BF 1942 doesn't have an external config tool, you'll have to hook your old monitor back up to your computer and change the refresh rate for every game. It needs to be at 60Hz for your LCD monitor or it won't work. That's what that error is telling you.

OK i hooked my machine back up to the old monitor to change the in-game settings and no luck at all.
I tried 1024x768x16@60
and 1024x768x32@60
No luck at all.I cant even access my monitors menu when the game is playing.Which only consists of a blank screen with sound in the background.
I installed all the drivers for my monitor and tried changing the resolution of the monitor to all options i have to no avail.
I even did a fresh install of BF1942 to see if that would help and it didnt.
Any more suggestions?Anything is worth a shot as i really want to play this game.lol
And i either wasted my money on this monitor or on that game.

Just a thought, but are the two monitors hooked up to the same output on the vid card? As in, are both using the VGA connector? If your new LCD monitor is using the DVI connector, then that would be the problem. In any case, that's my next guess. There's nothing different here other than the monitors.

I honestly cant see how my other monitor didnt have a problem playing this game on the exact same settings and this one is.Its brand new and its quite a nice monitor. Its well able to play this game

75Hz?? Really? That's interesting... I wonder if it's because the refresh rate on that LCD monitor is 8ms. I've only ever worked with 12ms LCD monitors or above, which require a 60Hz refresh rate in Windows/games.
I'll have to remember this one for future reference. Thanx for posting back with your solution.

Hi! I was searching the web for information about my problems with BF 1942 when I found this thread. I have exactly this problem but it only happens when I update my game??? I can play it from the original version but to play some of the Mods I have to update it. IŽve tried to change the frequenserate all the way from 60 hz to 110 hz without any luck. Do you think I have to restart the computer before these settings work? I also have a LCD screen and I can hear the sound from the game but my monitor is black showing "input not supported".
Thanks
Peter

You may not have to restart your computer, but sometimes you have to exit the game and restart it before the settings will work. Also, did you check the resolution in addition to the refresh rate?

Okey... you think the resolution might have something to do with it?
IŽll try and then get back with the results.

LCD monitors have a native resolution, which is the best resolution to view on them because that's what they were made for. You can display any resolution below the native resolution, but the image will suffer from interpolation between certain pixel lines. You cannot, however, display any resolution higher than the native resolution. It simply will not work on an LCD.

Sorry... Being from Sweden I donŽt understand what you mean by "native resolution". However, I have tried different resolutions with different frequenses but nothing seems to make it work. What can have change from the update?

Try hooking up a 17" CRT monitor. It could be that the game update changed the game's settings and won't let you change them back until you can actually see the menu in the game. In other words, if you've just been changing your resolution and refresh settings in Windows, it's not going to do anything to the game. You have to change it in the game.
The "native resolution" of an LCD is the exact resolution that it was designed for. LCD's are made with individual pixels. For instance, if you make an LCD screen that has 12 pixels, then its native resolution will be 4 x 3 because that's how many pixels there are. An LCD monitor with a native resolution of 800 x 600 has exactly 480000 pixels. No more, no less. So while you can display smaller sized images (lower resolutions) you can't display larger sized images because the extra pixels do not exist.
Hi guys,
sorry for ressurecting such an old topic, but I read about this problem on this forum and I found a solution that will fix the game.
Do the following:
# Double Click on the My Computer icon.
# Double Click the C:\ drive.
# Double Click on Program Files.
# Double Click on EA GAMES.
# Double Click on Battlefield 1942.
# Double Click on Mods
# Double Click on bf1942
# Double Click on Settings
# Right-Click VideoDefault.con and choose Open
* Note: If prompted for a program to use select Wordpad
edit renderer.allowAllRefreshRates from 1 to 0.
Save and play :)
Cheers,
Aahz.
