Some may recall the connectivity difficulties I've had with the modem that came with my new gateway pc. After some investigation I decided to get a USR "performance pro" hardware modem. Anyway, I thought I'd try returning the modem which came with the pc to gateway. Frankly, I didn't expect them to go along with this (the modem was a "no options" part of ths system), and if they did I didn't expect to get much $$$$ for the modem. After about a half hour on the phone with them & speaking to 3 people (customer service, technical support, then customer service again) they agreed to take the modem back and credit my $49. Since I was expecting closer to $15-20 (if anything), I was quite pleased. Thus the new modem ends up costing me $30 extra! So if anyone ever has a problem with an installed piece of hardware on a new gateway pc & plan to upgrade, trying to get your $$$ back for the unsatisfactory bit may be worth a shot, better than just adding it to the dust collecting pile of useless pc boards we all have http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Now lets see if it helps the disconnects. I'm using it now...do I seem any more lucid??? (don't answer that http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )
