Hi,

I'm having problems charging my Toshiba Satellite A50. The battery does not charge because of some sort of short in the charging circuit. It started slowly and only happened occasionally, gradually getting worse until it won't charge at all. If I wiggle the adapter in the interface it sometimes completes the circuit and will start charging, but as soon as I move it, even just a hair, it will break the circuit and will stop charging(charge light goes off, power save mode comes on).

I've tested the adapter with a multimeter and it is working fine. I've also taken apart the laptop and removed a small cable with the adapters interface on the end(the little circular thing with the post in the middle). The one end had holes so tiny I couldn't check to see if there was a short in this wire, but i'm assuming that there must be because of the whole wiggling thing getting it working...

Just wondering if anyone has come across this problem, and if so, do you think it could be the adapter interface?

Thanks for any replies,
Wes

Actually an open circuit due to plug movement or a cold solder joint at the socket is the most likely cause of your problem. This is a relatively common failure point in notebooks, not restricted to Toshiba models. Some are more easily repaired than others.
Wiggling makes it worse.

Resodder the points on the DC Jack, You have to take the laptop apart and access directly the motherboard.

Should be pretty simple, as long as you dont need parts like a new jack

you should be careful tho, as one wrong sodder and its bye bye laptop....
