Hi.

I have spent the last week trouble shooting this problem, i recently upgraded my pc. I instaled a new m/b that would take my new x1900xtx pcie card. (until now I had no problems)

Every time i play any type of video file (except dvds) from my hard drive the video freezes around 30 mins into the file. It doesnt seem to matter what media player i use the video still freezes and the freeze is system wide, all i can do is restart it.

I thought perhaps it was a heating problem so I have so far fitted extra fans to the case, upgraded my power pack, taken the side of the case, and formated my pc, non of these things has made any difference it still freezes my system approx 30 mins into any video file, the error is really anoying me now.

I can play games with no problems at all for hours on end with no freeze or loading errors and the machine is perfectly stable except when trying to watch a video.

From time to time the amount of time the error takes to hit, varies but most of the time its around the 30 min mark.. please help!

Any ideas please?

Is the HD configured for DMA(direct memory access)?
If so, then see if a clean boot finds the problem:

Hi,

Are these video files one's u made or downloaded(Divx)? In avi or mpeg?
it is possible to get corrupted frame/s in your AVI file  . Some players will go straight through the corrupt frames but i found it helps to get rid of them, especially if you are planning on encoding this AVI to an MPEG file at any stage. a simple prog used a long time back like VirtualDUBMOD will search and find bad frame/s. Open it and click Video --> Scan Video Stream For Errors --> Scan...
...then return and click Show Bad Frame.

Just a stab in the dark...running external HDD?
also..
Are u'r HDD FAT configured?
Is there a fan on Vid card...is it working OK?

cheers
