I'm thinking of buying a Athlon T-bird 1,2 266 FSB and I don't know which board (chipset) to buy my wishes are stable, stable, stable, fast, PC133 SDRAM compatible (not DDR) and has to have Firewire support!

Welcome, Mike! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You're kind of working at cross purposes here.

You won't take full advantage of the 266 FSB without DDR.

I know I won't I just don't have the money to aford DDR and I buying one with 256 FSB cause it costs almost the same.

What about the mobo? The only one I could find (with Firewire) so far is this one: AOpen AK-1384(A) http://www.aopen.com/products/mb/ak73-1394(A).htm

What are your thought about AOpen and VIA and esp. about this motherboard!?!

FireWire is also easily added with a PCI expansion card,
so don't limit your search by using just that as the criterion.

Try the MOBOT tool here (http://www.motherboards.org/).

You can specify some of the features you want, and it will
search and return any applicable board models that have them.

So I can buy any motherboard and just add Firewire?

How much does a Firewire expansion card cost and which company should I buy it from (I'm thinking of buying Asus mobo now)?

What are your thoughts about VIA KT133A chipsets (or should I go with something else)?
