Ok,, I have all parts in for first build... After booting up first time and setting up cmos, I will be installing os.... Now, I know there are new revisions on motherboard (chipset),,,, OS ,,,, and the video card That I installed.... In which order should these drivers be downloaded and installed... Also a little worried about installing the new mobo drivers.... I have read alot about this procedure,,but still do not fully comprehend... Quote "Install VIA 4.31 IDE controllers (AKA 4 in 1, unchecking the via agp driver in the option box when the driver set runs".. Could someone please explain or help with simplifying this download and install... still new,, be patient !!

install os
install motherboard drivers
install video drivers
for the via 4in 1 install of them but when you get to the agp one pick in normal mode.
forgot to add when it asks if you want all devices to be udma say no then set them up after.

Squirrel - You might try this:
With VIA Chipset.
1. Install O/S
2. Install VIA Service Pack
3. Install VIA USB Filter Driver
4. Other Drivers
Good Luck!

I'd be more inclinded to add a step or two in the middle:
• Load BIOS defaults, save and exit.
• Install Windows. Shutdown and power up.
• Install modem and configure as necessary.
• Configure Dial-Up Networking or other ISP account.
• Check board mfr's site to see if BIOS version is current. Update only if required.
• Check M$ site and download all recommended Windows updates and security patches.
• Install chipset and other required drivers.

i disagree with what was posted ahead of me since you should have the chipset configured befoe anything .
also his main concern was the video so you need the via 4in1 setup.
I know this since I have dealt with this many times.
Also it was not stated what type of motherboard.
Some of the newer mobos come with a file that lets you update the bios/cmos while in windows such as the asus boards.
As long as you have the latest chipset and video drivers and you know what is udma/ata(66 or 100) then you should have no problems.

It seems obvious that the chipset drivers can be updated at any time.
People who are already up and running don't have to start from scratch.
Although the present included video driver may not be the latest,
it certainly should be current enough for Windows to recognize
the video card with the PnP wizard.
I think it makes much more sense to have the Windows install 'up to snuff'
before making any modifications to the underlying structures. The VIA
install may go more smoothly if Windows is as up to date as possible first.

The reason that I state that you have the via chipset done first is that some video cards such as the rage fury pro and the radeons will not work unless you have the chipset done. (I have learned this from experience working with these cards also depending on the boards the geforce cards too.) Theres is nothing that sucks more then browsing the internet for updates at the lowest resolution that your video card can provide.
once that is done then anything you do will not affect it if you do update your via then just do the directx8 which will take only a couple of seconds.
hope this helps
