Hi,

I'm new here, very very new.

I'm having a very simple, very frustrating problem: my graphics card doesn't fit. It's a 7300GS for a pci-e slot, I've got a Asrock 939 dual sata mobo and an antec SLKB case. The card (from all the information I've found should be an easy fit) just won't sit fully in the slot. As far as I can tell it's getting hung up on the case somehow  I've been trying to get this card in all day, my fingers are literally bruised and bleeding (the card is preety sharp) please please please help!

Hello DD Welcome to PC Guide.

Have you moved the holding slide on the slot so the card enters the slot ?

Is the slot clear of anything that mite be blocking it ?

Are you fitting it in the right slot ?

Do you need to losen the screws on other blanking plates so the PCIE card sits flush ?

Hi Jiggy :)

What's a holding slide?

As far as I can tell the slot seems clear.

My mobo only has one pci-e slot and it's pretty hard to mix up with something else.

The blanking plates on this case aren't held in by screws and as far as I can see they don't seem to be ubstructing the cards connection either :(

Thanks for helping Jiggy, sorry it took me so long o reply I had to decompress ;)

Indeed, are you sure you're in the correct slot? Your board has these:

PCI Express x16 slot
PCI Express x1 slot
AGP slot

Also, as Jiggy points out, the backing plate might need to be removed to install...

Yes, I'm sure I'm trying to install in the pci-e 1 slot, the pci-e 2 slot is too small for the card. I've removed the backing plate that goes with this particular slot already, I can see the outlets of the card coming through fine, and the other backing plates don't appear to be interferring at all.

I've also checked my mobo's install guide and found no refrence to a holding slid :(

I've taken out the two nearest brackets. It still won't go in.

On inspection the video card bracket does not appear to match my case at all. Where the case brackets have a small grove the vid card has none. The only thing I can think of is somehow cutting the vid card to fit (don't have a clue about how to do this but one more hr of this and I might try anyway.) Antec cases aren't so unusual that this card should not fit, but it's apparently the only thing getting in the way of me making a connection.

If the motherboard were removed from the case, would the vid card lock in properly?

Yes I think so.

I think what Jiggy was referring to is the little clip at the rear of the slot that holds the card in place once it is in all the way. Did you pull the clip back before you tried to install the card?

Once fully inserted the clip will snap into place.

Hmm, well the card just snaps into place in the back. Or at least it seems to, I can get the back end nicely seated into place but I can't get the front end down afterwards.

I hadn't noticed a clip at the end, though there is a groved section that seems to lock the board in place.

Hmm, are you getting the little tab on the front end of the card (the end the monitor hooks up to) down in between the mobo and the back of the case and not trying to put outside the case or something? It can be tricky to get it in there just right sometimes if the mobo is tight to the back of the case.

Do you mean the vid card bracket doesn't have to fit into the case bracket space? If that's the case I've been going about this all wrong :)

Oh good it's in.

I don't think I worded it right last time though. The tab fits between the back of the case case and the mobo. I thought maybe you were trying to put it through the slot or something.

I tried to find a good picture but couldn't find an appropriate one, but if it's in it's in. :)
