I am in a real bind. Liveupdate Died and with Antivirus 2003 I get no technical support. I want to manually load the latest virus updates, which I should be able to do with Intelligent Installer, if I could find it or the virus fixes on the Symantec sites. I have been all over their URL's and get nowhere. Does anyone know where these manual updates are located? I do have a valid subscription, which Symantec verified, but they said I needed to buy the latest version. I shouldn't have to to get the latest updates.

That is exactly what I need. I will save the address. I assume each new update is at this location. Thanks

http://definitions.symantec.com/defs/ is not available. I.E. cannot connect to it. Even with the .exe file added to the URL.

Try Avast (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html) instead. Drop Norton like a bad habit. You won't be disappointed.

I agree drop Norton. Why pay for a bloated program when you can get a better one for free?? And not get treated like you just have been by Symantec. ;)

Don't drop Norton please. I had tried repaired many pc, for virus cases, Norton is the best in my experience. Although it's quite heavy for a weak pc to run it. This is true but its security is the best among the anti-viruses I know. Its virus definitions alway leading in front of other anti-viruses. Believe me, thank you. ^.^

I have 2GB ram and still will not run Norton. ;) I have been using free AV/FW software for years now and haven't had a virus for over two years. The ones I had before that came through email and were caught and taken care of by a free AV.

I ever repaired a pc with AVG anti-virus system. It can't detect the most updated worm: W32.Rontokbro.U@mm eventhough its virus definion is the latest. I meant last time since now this worm is outdated already (29, March). Last time I was using Norton to help the customer remove the worm. At that moment you guess what am I thinking? AVG is useless...So just continue your subscription with Norton.

I'm going to add to the Norton bashing. Ditch it and just about all the other bloated and expensive stuff that Norton hawks. Avast and AVG may both be free (for personal use) but are not inferior products. The exposure for free for domestic users gives them good advertising and the ability for people to try them out.

Chrisling:

I think you will find most of the experts around here are not fond of Norton for several reasons. The first is it has a very large foot print. It uses more memory and CPU cycles. It also is prone to crash systems to pieces. Finally it it is almost impossible to remove of there is a problem. All you have to do is check out their tech support site and check to see the problems that they admit to having with the product. I personally like AVAST. It takes a lot less system resources, can be unistalled with ease and works like a charm and its free to home users.....

No AV is 100% all the time. At any given time any one AV might be slightly ahead of any one of the others in signatures.

I also prefer Avast.

I used to be Avast!'s, AVG's, McAfee's, Kaspersky's, Panda's and Norton's user. The conclusion is: I prefer back to Norton. Sorry if I did said something you all didn't like, but I just want to share my experience with Chuck R.

If you like Norton that's fine. You can have your preference. You didn't necessarily say anything wrong. :)

It's just many of us around here have had Norton in the past and will never use it again. We have also had to deal with the PIA of getting rid of it from a machine, and the crashes it causes.

Let's put it this way...

If Norton were a burger, it would be a 1/2 lb (70 % lean) pattie, fried in bacon grease, served on a buttered bun (grilled) with six slices of cheese & extra mayo, all with a side of traditional lard fried fries....
