ok, i know i am sounding like a jackass right now asking for help on something that i know has been discussed, but im tired of searching. I want to connect my laptop and desktop together to share files, and play games like war3. together. I am pretty sure that i do not have a crossover cable, but both of my computers have ethernet slots. I have a d-Link router, and a laptop with a wireless card. My question is:
Can I connect my laptop wirelessly to my desktop using the router. Currently my desktop has no internet, but my laptop does, wireless... Also, if there is anyway to be sharing files with my desktop, and be on the internet on another wireless connection. Please help, i am desperate at this point.

It will usually be marked as a crossover cable if it is one.

The fastest/most secure setup is to have the router connected to the PC and laptop with patch cables.
We need to know:
The model of the router, does it have wireless built into it?
The OS on the desktop and notebook, Home or Pro?
How are you getting your Internet?

hey, thanx for the help, but after 2 hours of trying to get this to work, my dad tells me he has a crossover cable. .................... After he comes home from work, i should have asked him before i tried. But yeah, i am just going to try to use an ethernet crossover cable instead of all this other stuff. But can i wirelessly be connected on the internet, and connected to my desktop through the ethernet cable at the same time?
