hi all im looking into getting an external cd rewriter for my coputer as it does not have one at the moment, im looking to burn music cds and movies and am just wondering if its straight forward to get the cd rewriter up and running?
What OS do you have? It is really pretty much just connecting it with a USB or Firewire cable and possibly running a driver CD (if you don't have Windows XP).
Why not just get an internal one though? They will be cheaper and probably perform a bit better.

Take a look at THIS (http://www.vipower.com.tw/P_SmartFamily.php?model_no=VP-6228V) chosen from THIS (http://www.vipower.com.tw/SmartFamily.php) list.
I have THIS (http://www.vipower.com.tw/P_SmartFamily.php?model_no=VP-9258V) external HDD enclosure in use and performing well.
The Smart Cable [that connects the enclosure to the PC] has the [USB2] circuitry included in the plug [you'd never know it was there], and that Smart Cable can be used to give [USB2] connection for a number of different enclosures [one cable, many enclosures].
Hence the enclosures cost less than they would if including the circuitry in each.
USB 2.0 drivers for Win98SE are included on a mini-CD that is supplied with the cable.
Later OS's include the drivers in the installation files.
The enclosure comes with its own power unit and includes a power on/off switch.
There are a whole range of other types of external enclosures seen HERE (http://www.vipower.com.tw/ExternalEnclosure.php).
You fit your own drive into these.
