Someone asked me if I thought they should reformat their hard drive and load XT instead of Windows 98. What the heck is XT? Is it better then windows98? Does it install the same as Windows does after a reformat?
thanks for any info

They may be refferig to Windows XP whic will be the latest version of Windows released later this year (eXPerience).
How good it will be will be answered better by some of the more experienced users here but I know it requires quite a high spec machine.
There maybe copies of beta versions floating around but dont touch these.
Dont get confused with Office XP which is available now but replaces Office 2000 and is not an O/S (can get quite confusing).

"IBM introduced the PC, or Personal Computer, on August 12, 1981. At the time of its introduction, most computers were still processing 8 bits of information per clock cycle. IBM revolutionized the industry by hitting the market with a computer based on the Intel 8088 processor, which was compatible with 8-bit computers but processed information internally at 16-bits per clock cycle"
"On March 8, 1983, IBM released the XT, short for eXtended Technology. The IBM XT came equipped with a 10 megabyte hard drive and was expandable to 640k of RAM on the system board "
It is very unlikely that is what that person was asking about...what skhips said is most likely what they wanted.

Thanks skhips and mjc,
Maybe next time he mentions it to me I won't look like a total numskull.
