Hi

 I've just bought a Packard Bell Maestro 190W monitor. This is a widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1440x900.

My current graphics card nVidia FX5200 does not support this resolution. I've tried experimenting with all the available settings, but the monitor just tries to stretch the desktop to fit, with very poor results - I can't read the text properly, and my bitmaps are all displayed stretched and fuzzy.

I then downloaded and installed the latest nVidia driver, which has an option to enter a custom resolution, but it will not accept my required 1440x900 resolution.

I guess this means I must buy a new graphics card that supports 1440x900 ? Can anyone direct me to a card that will accommodate that resolution ? I don't want an ultra expensive card, as I don't game, but I need a card that supports 1440x900 so I can read my spreadsheets and see my photos and images displayed clearly.

I'm running on Win98SE

Thanks

Hi again

;) Just to let you know that I've been able to get my existing graphics card FX5200 to accept the 1440x900 resolution. I downloaded ( from majorgeeks.com ) and installed the shareware program Powerstrip. This enabled me, after a bit of experimentation, to get my card to accept the widescreen resolution without stretching or blurring the desktop. It also enables you to set a whole load of other unusual resolutions, and you can change the refresh rate, gamma, contrast, brightness, colour balance etc. The text and graphics are now very sharp and clear. I hope this will help others with the same problem.
