I've McAfee 2006 version installed at my pc and it is displaying a message that my system is infected with a medium risk worm......."W32/IRCbot.worm"

Now the first thing is that the "folder options" in the "tools" menu is disappeared.......but thats not the real threat.

The main problem thats really annoying is that whenever i enter in command/DOS prompt the system is restarted automatically and the same thing happens while downloading any software from internet.

I searched about this worm on the internet and found a link claiming to scan system for this worm for free, but that too was interupted by automatic restart.
..........................what do i do now?

You mention DOS so I will assume you are working with Win98\ME.

If possible use someone else's PC to make a set of emergencey Anti-Virus disks (You should have been given this choice when you installed McAfee) Install yur McAfee software onto their PC make the disks and then remove the software from their PC. This will make a set of dsiks one of which is a boot disk. Just follow the on-screen instructions

Or (using the other PC) download Stinger from McAfee's ( http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.aspx#001 ) site load it to a floppy and run this.

If that is not possible

Or if you have a USB falsh drive, you can download an AV designed to be run from there...

Akif,
The Stinger tool has been upgraded to deal with this worm. Get it downloaded on a clean PC, write-protect it and run it in SAFE mode.

(Same advice ErnieK gave)

The worm has access to your PC if a Windows Update was missed per McAfee site info.
