Yesterday I received the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB905474) update. During this download, my computer froze up. Cancel or ALT DEL wouldn't work, so I powered down using the power button. Upon restarting, everything seemed fine until I opened by Internet Explorer 6. Now I have no access to the internet - CANNOT OPEN PAGE appears every time. I can access my e-mail account (outlook express) but no internet.
On my control panel, the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications is listed, but is UNREMOVABLE.
Can anyone give me any help/suggestions?
Thanks,
Obviously, I'm using a different computer to post this...

If you are running XP, I would try a System Restore. See if that will take you back before the update.
This particular download apparently has to do with with ferreting out illegit Windows Operating Systems. MS might have designed the download to be very difficult to remove...

I've done that twice - to no avail. Would it be possible for me to re-install IE6 (somehow)? If I switch users on that computer, I CAN access the internet. I just can't seem to access the internet from my user profile! I really don't want to start from scratch if I don't have to...
It isn't likely to be an IE6, problem, but a networking problem.
You haven't said what kind of internet access you have.
Unless your current user account is the only admin account on the machine, it may just be easier to create a new account for yourself and migrate all your settings and what not over...

I have a wireless home network set up. A main computer in the den, and then a laptop elsewhere in the house. Why would one user not connect on the laptop through the wireless connection and another user's would? The settings appear to be identical? I can also receive e-mails on all user accounts. I can also check for upgrades on spyware and adware programs, but can't connect to any interent content through IE6.

After reading the post pertaining to network problems, I took the laptop into the den and compared IE6's connection and advanced settings to the computer in the den. There were some differences. I made them the same, and I'm back on-line.
THANK YOU very much.

The reason for the network differences is likely the changes that were made to originally make the connection were undone, ether by the crash or the restore process...since it was being done in your account (the only one active at the time) it was the one changed.
