Captcha is no longer effectively stop spam?

I am just wondering because I have seen some blog sites implemented captcha but still ended up spammed by spambots. Is captcha no longer effective as they were?...

If your spam amount is pretty low, then I would say that it is still somewhat effective.

If it is really low, then remember there are actually some people out there, for some strange twisted reason, who actually go around and manually spam places...
