Hi,
First time I have used this,I am after advice what to do with a freinds notebook,Cybercom/Medion model MD2550.
The main problem is the Hard Drive has been low formatted, I canot get into the Bios the display does not come on, the only thing that happens is the Hard Drive light comes on for a moment and the C.D. drive works but will not Boot.

I do have all the software that came with the laptop when it was new.

I have checked All connectrions inside the computer including C.P.U. & Memory etc.

Any Ideas would be welcome as I have ran out.

Thanks :

The display doesn't come on? At all? Well...

Connect the monitor to an external monitor and if it works, the notebook's display is bad. If it doesn't work, something else is awry.

Does the hard drive work in another computer? You can buy 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive adaptors here

These work very well.

And welcome to the forum.

Wait... you connected the hard drive to another computer and it doesn't work?

Can you hear the hard drive spinning up, and is it detected in the BIOS?

Sounds to me like a dead hard drive (for sure) and perhaps something more serious with the notebook if you can't get a display. But because you can hear it trying to boot, that indicates that the POST is running and completing. I was thinking perhaps a problem with the display, but since an external monitor doesn't work, that probably isn't the problem.

Oh no... three beeps? I hadn't read that part before. Wait until Sylvander pops in (he's the POST expert around here http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif... he'll be able to point you in the right direction)

I have the same laptop and had the same problem with the display and it wasnt good news, it turned out the graphics card had burned out, turns out our laptops are prone to overheating. I also had similar problem with the harddrive where by over time bad sectors appeared until in the end it stopped working all together. The 3 short beeps is a little strange as the laptop uses Phoenix BIOS and so would usually be acompanied by another set of beeps but at a guess i would say its saying the graphics card is broke.
