It may be that there was a "Buffer Under-run".
That means the drive on-board "buffer" or data reservoir ran out of data [empty], which caused a burning error.
Think of it as a FLOW of data from the source [what & where?] to the destination [the CD-R?].
It's likely that the connection from the PC to the drive was the bottleneck.
Is it USB 2.0 or USB 1.1?
Does ir read CD's ok?
Is your PC high spec or low? [Other possible performace bottleneck]

Connect the burner to one of the USB 2.0 slots and when burning, use the software [Nero] to burn at the slowest speed possible.
If that produces a successful burn, the next time use the next fastest speed, and with each new burn increase the speed untill you find at what speed the burn fails.
What burn speeds does your CD-R/RW disks support?
And what speeds does your software show as chooseable?
There's a problem with Nero version 5.5; I must find the details of that at the Microsoft knowledge base.
Will get back when that's done.

Programs that may experience a change in behavior after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886264/en-us#E0TC0ABAAA)
The Ahead Nero Burning ROM software cannot locate the Wnaspi32.dll file after an upgrade to Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302809/en-us)
Which version of Windows and which Service Pack are you running?
Would you be able to update Nero?
"its been saying error burner was reset ever sinc ei started using them?"
Did it work ok with other CD-R's?

the speed is 52xwrite 24x rewrite and 52 x read
i currently am using phillips cdr and i do not hav a usb 2.0 connection nor do i want to buy one currently.
i use the stadnard 1.1 on the bakc of my laptop and i was satisifed with it until just recennlty whhen the errors have occured.
i am running windows xp with service pack 2
i am not sure how to update nero as my version came bundled with the brner and i/o magic burneryes i have never recieved this burner reset error b4 and it seemed to have just happened recently. this is my first time using PHILLIPS CDR. i have used sony, memorex, andothers in the pat on the same compuiter an dother pc and no problems.
my software shows from 1x all the way to 52 x and i usually select test speed so that nero decides the best speed for me but ill try doing 1 x or 4 x now i even went to the site and talked live to a person and it did not help. she told me to download tools that made my pc crash
please help

"the speed is 52xwrite 24x rewrite and 52 x read"
I'm no super-expert, but I don't think USB 1.1 will give a fast enough data flow to support such high speeds.
"i do not have a usb 2.0 connection nor do i want to buy one currently"
It will be interesting to see whether you EVER manage to get USB 1.1 to give adequate performance. I suspect USB 2.2 is going to be necessary.
"i use the standard 1.1 on the back of my laptop and i was satisfied with it until just recently when the errors have occurred."
Has the high speed Philips burner EVER successfully burned disks on the USB 1.1 connection?
"i am not sure how to update nero"
At sites such as this http://ww2.nero.com/enu/ but only if necessary; not sure whether version 5.5 is causing a problem when working with your OS.
"i have never received this burner reset error b4 and it seemed to have just happened recently."
I'll assume that means that Nero 5.5 and the Philips burner had previously been burning successfully [you might have had no errors because you had never tried to burn with this combination].
Did you update Windows just before this problem surfaced?
Any other changes?
"this is my first time using PHILLIPS CDR"
80 minute or 74 minute or what? And what speed? And does the burner support these?
I had to apply a firmware update for my HP burner so it could handle a certain manufacturers disks successfully.
"ill try doing 1 x or 4 x now"
Also try burning in the "Start->Run->msconfig->Diagnostic Startup->Normal mode at restart" environment. This is like Safe Mode, but WITH optical drive access. Power off your [broadband?] modem when there because your firewall and all other programs won't be running [all your CPU capacity dedicated to burning].
"she told me to download tools that made my pc crash"
Not a good sign.
