I have an E-Machines circa 2001 with WinXP installed from the factory. I have the restore CD.
I have just built a new PC with 2006 parts. All that is missing is the hard drive. I was going to buy a new copy of WinXP Home and install that on a new HD. However, I was thinking instead that I could install the Emachines hard disk on the new PC, and then boot the restore CDs and install Windows from there.
Will the restore CD "know" that I have a new motherboard, BIOS, etc? Will the install work? (think of the "genuine Windows" test or whatever Microsoft calls it)?
Thanks.
