View Full Version : Thumbnail images won't show on XP Pro anymore

Using Xp Professional version 2002.
When I open up the "My Pictures" folder or any other folder containing graphics I used to see a thumbnail of the graphic. Now these folders display icon thumbnails for software like a fireworks or adobe image, not a thumbnail of the actual graphic itself.
What happened?
Whats happening?
Also, I scanned for malware with Bullguard, Ad-Aware and Spybot, I also did a registry clean, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
Check the View settings for that particular folder...set it to Thumbnails. There are several 'tweaks' that can set all the folder views to Icons by default, thereby, overriding the default setting of Thumbnails for the graphics folders.

It IS set to thumbnails. I get thumbnails of Fireworks jpeg icons y'know a square box with a subset box of a triangle in its upper left corner?
How do I get thumbnails to become an a thumbnail of the actual jpeg or gif graphic?
hmmm...
You may want to give this (http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) a try (line 17, right hand column)

I have XP home but it should still be similar. Right click on your thumbnail Picture folder, choose properties, then choose the "Customize" tab. You can then either choose what photos you want or you can reset the defaults. Hope it works for what you need. :)

Bullman Yeah I can change the icon of the folder with those options you gave me. But the pictures within the folder are not thumbnails.
thanks anyway

I did an XP restore and explorer still won't show thumbnails. There is a thumbnails file in the folder too but its not working no matter what I do.
Since you mentioned Adobe products not showing, try the suggestion from the thread in the link below.
I unzipped the files to the adobe directory specified, then ran the .reg files. Now I see AI and PSD thumbnails in explorer windows. Unfortunately, my InDesign files are still icons, so I'll be searching for a fix for that next lol.
