hello. Can somebody help me finding a list/link from where I can "see" the person/server/domin from which country is ?
I know that for every country are different IP classes ....
I have heard in the first place about this type of "identification" when I was chatting on IRC on a channel and the moderator made a brief statistic of the country from which the users chatting on the channel were from .
I asked the mod' in private how did he knew from where i was from and he told me about the IP classes specifi to every country/region .
thx

thx for the site ....
i also used the demo geolocation and gived me some nice info ...
The first that it says is: "Your IP Address is 89.34.166.154 via proxy 81.196.150.58"
I know that 89.34.xxx.xxx is my ip .... but what does it mean "via proxy 81.196.150.58"
Does it mean that via proxy 81.196.150.58 is the mother server/mother ISP of my local ISP ??... because when I click on "map it" to show the location on a world map it crosslines Bucharest, and Bucharest is not the city where I'm located, my city location is Cluj.
Which is the trick/ideea here ?

Do a Tracert from the IP to a site, say this one (IP 209.68.14.80). It will show you (30 max) the Servers/Routers/PCs to this site.
Here is a link to a graphics enhanced one, but you must use IE for this one due to Active-X used:

To find out who the IP belongs to and the contact info you use whois to query a RIR (regional internet registry) the registries are ARIN, RIPE, APNIC,AfriNIC, LACNIC
whois [ -h host ] identifier

Posting your IP address is not generally considered a good idea...

Yes, unless you are protected by a proxy server/firewall/NAT router, you give the bad guys an unnecessary target to shoot at. Heck, they scan the addresses anyway.

whois client comes with most *nix so you can do it at a terminal session. ( man whois ), if you are on windows the easy way is to go to geektools.com and click on whois at the top, solarwinds and such have it built in to their tool set. also on geektools is a list of whats called "route servers", most ISPs allow people to get on a router or server to check routing in their network and look at their BGP routes and such but what is nice is that you can do your traces from there and not from your own IP. As for the proxy question it looks as if you are going through a proxy which is getting to be more common these days as this is one of the things that allow AOL and Netzero to do "HIGH" speed internet LOL! (AOL and high speed does not belong in the same sentence)
