I really, really, really want to buy a burner and I don't have much money to spend on the sucker. I don't plan on using it constantly--but one never knows http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif--so I don't think I need anything too fancy or fast, for that matter.

I've been eyeballing a HP 8x-32x-4x at my local Future Shop, Canada's answer to Best Buy, and it retails for $150. I have an HP printer and love it and it works great, so that sways me to the HP namebrand. I love quality though and that's what makes me want to lean toward Plextor...but their prices are out of my league, unless Plextor sells a similar burner to the HP for close to the same price.

Basically, I just want something that won't blow up and die on me within 6 months of getting it. I only plan on using the burner to free up some space on my HD by storing files on disc and making the occassional mixed CD for my listening pleasure.

Any thoughts? Remember folks...I'm in Canada, so remember when quoting prices whether they're American or Canadian http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks!!

Iomega has a 12X10X32X w/burnproof that is just a remarked Plextor (and has been on sale for $99)...my first burner was a memorex and it's still going strong over 2yrs later, it's now in its 3rd computer...

HP stuff is, IMHO, kinda overpriced, and I don't think I've seen any of their burners with burn proof...

Buslink has a 12X w/burnproof for $99, but I haven't used it so I can't comment on quality...I have a cendyne USB burner that works great and they make internals also...
