Plugging?

I was just wondering something because of all the SPAM that has been going on...Is it possible in anyway for regular members here to plug their site or forum in anyway?

Like say .....Who has a lot of posts???....SAPHALLINE :)

The policy is no commercial advertising is allowed on the forums unless specifically authorized by ixl.
Personal interest links are ok in signatures or profiles but may be removed if they prove to be a problem. So no, you cannot advertise your repair business or computer hardware or software business in your sigs.

What if your forum/site isnt about Pc's at all?
And its not selling anything its just a discussion board about another topic altogether

Links cannot be money-driven in anyone's interest. As in, no one who posts should know anyone else who gets money from a click on that link. Banners are obviously right out. A site that contains banners is OK since you actually have to click on a banner in order to generate money (which is fine since at that point it's free will).

Links to another forum must be appropriate to the topic or question asked. Budfred, for instance, often links to another forum that he moderates, but he's the first one to post any warnings about conflicts between that one and this one (which can get sticky when dealing with HJT logs). And of course links and topics must be appropriate to the section of the forums in which they are given.

I give links to online hardware vendors quite often because members often ask for specific advice about where to buy hardware, and for information in general. Newegg is great for that since they provide a great deal of info for each product they sell. But there is no conflict of interest with me (or anyone else on the forums of whom I am aware) and Newegg - I don't get any money if someone buys a part on Newegg. Thus I give advice but I do not really care if another member follows my advice or not (unless they come whining to me later :p).

"Plugging" as a general concept is off-limits around here. It's not fair to give free advice to a member of the forums in another country, but charge money for your advice for those living in your area of business. Same thing goes with another forums or site - you can't be making money or preventing others from making money by the number of visitors to a link that you give.

When in doubt around here, just ask. Send a PM to ixl or Paleo Pete or one of the other mods (who may forward it to ixl or Paleo Pete) with your link. If you get the private OK from one of them, you can put your link on the public forums.
