I would like to build my own PC. Do you suggest a 300w power supply or is 250w enough and why?

300w are close to becoming the standard power supply for a quality machine, if you are putting together a new machine why limit what you'll be able to add to it; maybe even a 350w would be worth considering, especially if you want several different types of drives(CD-RW HDD DVD), a processor above 1GHZ (mainly for the cooling fan, although the fastest processors eat a lot of power on their own...)

Basically if you take want you want to put into the machine add up the power ratings (usually I use the peak--you want to be able to cover a full load) and leave a little extra for future expansion.

250 Watt is enough until you start adding the stuff most of us want...as mjc said.......the difference in cost is less than $15...go for the 300 at least.

A good quality 250w power supply is much better than a poor quality 300w power supply. Asking the mobo manufacturer what power supply they recommend is your best bet. Or you can ask around here what builders recommend. May I suggest the Aopen KF-45 case?
