Sound Card, Failure???

The computer reads the sound card as ready to go and functioning properly, but there is no sound... is there a chance its still failing?

Make sure the speakers are properly connected and the volume dial is adjusted, try the speakers on another system to make sure they work ok, make sure the sound card is properly adjusted in Windows, remove all sound cards from Device Manager in Safe mode -> restart the computer normally -> let Windows reload the sound card drivers, try different drivers, try the card in a different slot and in a different system, and try another card in your system.
