My computer is in one state and I am in another and I got a call that my computer won't turn on EKKK am I in trouble? And if so what happened to it?
If you have something we could check on it I would be glad to ask a friend to do so. I love my computer and hate to think its gonna be dead. Any suggestions I would appreciate

Hello and welcome to PC Guide.
We need to find out if any hardware plugged into your motherboard is dead, to do this follow this below -
Try a barebones boot using only power supply, motherboard (out of the case on cardboard - and connect the power switch from front of case), one stick of memory/RAM, cpu+heatsink and graphic card,
Does it boot ?
If not then the problem is one of the above parts.
If it boots add back your parts one at a time rebooting after each part.
Does it boot ?
If your unsure about anything post back.

1. Replace the fuse in the plug.
2. Try a new power lead.
3. Try another wall socket/outlet.
4. Try another power supply unit.

I am in the process of repairing a friend's pc that was involved in an electrical storm where sparks were dancing on his basement floor where the computer was
So far we have determined that the motehrboard is toast, the RAM is ok, the processor is anybodies guess and the harddrive must have mbr issues (at the very least) as it won't boot much past a repair screen and I've just now brought it home to begin recovering files if possible and plan on testing it for bad sectors afterwards.
Although the power supply smelled weird, it passes all tests with my PSU tester. Maybe the smell was absorbed from something else when the smoke passed through it as it exited the rear of the case.
My assignment so far is to order replacement mobo, ram and processor, probably the HDD too.
His is the beer... ;)
