Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

The reason why I posted the HJT log is because I have unknown processes running, along with un-erasable ad-ware that "informs" me about all the spy-ware I have on my computer. Here is the SmitFraud output after doing a search:

Yep, you have SmitFraud...

It would be a good idea to print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Thank you for your help. It appears to have fixed what it found to be bad in the first place. However, I still have a couple of unknown processes, which are simply named by random character strings. I also have another process called NotIMan.exe. Not too sure what that is. In addition, I still have popups coming out of my task bar telling me that my system is infected. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Login on your usual account.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #4 - Generic Renos Fix by typing 4 and press Enter.
The program will scan and fix the Registry and delete corresponding infected files on your computer, please be patient while it works.
The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

Post a fresh HJT log next time as well...

Your log appears to be clean... Are you still having problems??

If you are still having problems, move HJT to a permanent folder so that it is not accidentally deleted as we proceed....

Yes, I am experiencing all of the same symptoms, including these unknown processes: C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe, listed in the HJT log, and NotIMan.exe, not listed.

NotIMan is not listed in the HJT log?

What is telling you that it is running?

Do you have some sort of SoundBlaster sound card?

If you can find the file, right click on it and select 'Properties', if it is legit it should be a Creative file, a notification manager for Creative sound cards...

The other file that you noted is also legit, it is part of WinXP SP2...

Please be specific about what exact problems you are having... Do you mean you are still getting popups with warnings of infections??

Also, try another scan to see if we can figure out what might be going on...
