Anybody with a newer ATI card and Windows XP that has trouble with the "refresh rate bug" should check out this link:

http://www.radeon2.ru/refreshfix_eng.html

Seems this nice Russian fellow was kind enough to fix the problem. I've tried it with my 7500 and it works perfectly.

My problem was actually with my monitor. It didn't support 60hz refresh rates properly at resolutions lower than 1024x768...most of the time this wasn't a problem, but some programs only allow resolutions of 800x600 or 640x480.

Now I set everything at 75hz and all is well at any resolution...

What a boneheaded blunder on the part of M$. Surely there are thousands of people suffering from headaches and damaging their vision who have no idea why their new computer is bothering them so much more than their old one.

My aunt complained to me of headaches and teary eyes on several occasions before I found out about this a few weeks ago and fixed it for her. It's her first computer, so I didn't know if it was just her (I'm still on 98). She only uses one resolution and color depth so I just adjusted the refresh rate and she's been fine since.
