I'm trying to decide where to upgrade my system to get some better performance. It's mainly used for gameing (FPS's & SIM's),internet surfing and editing digital photos. The only place I find it lacking is really in the gameing use. I'm probably going to buy a Elsa Gladiac Gforce2 GTS 32mb DDR for it pretty soon to see if that helps some. I'm wondering between CPU,video card and amount of system ram what would help the most. I'm fairly sure that the fastest CPU upgrade, with present motherboard, would only be a 800mhz PIII and I'm thinking it's not worth the effort. The system ram is up-gradeable to 384mb ram.
Present System: HP Pavilion 8670C,MS Win98 2nd ed.,600mhz PIII CPU,128mb ram,Nvidia TNT 2 Model 64 32mb SDR.
Thanks

Goto Office Depot or Best Buy and get a 256Mb simm for about $60-$80. I have practically the same pc as you. That'll max out your ram. After that I got a UPS and bigger HD. That's all you should need, Video Card you said your prob. gonna get, I never upgraded any of my VC, but if you play the latest games you prob. should.
You can never have too much RAM, until your pc don't take no more.

Hey,
IMHO, a graphics card with its own processor might be the answer. Memory is important, but an accelerated video card would be my first choice, then more system RAM.
I am not familiar with the vid card you have now. Maybe it already has its own processor and I am just blowing hot air.
Just my two cents. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I am into serious gaming and you have to know that todays graphic cards; tho they have their own GPU's ( graphic procesing unit ) are still dependant on a strong CPU.That said, you have a good CPU ( tho i prefer AMD ), my advice is to get some more RAM ( i doubt you have SIMM chip in there ) 128mb is a good upgrade and they're currently inexpensive. Next is your video, at one time the TNT cards were good for the then current games, however now they are seriously lacking in performance for todays games, any of the geforce2 series are good choices ( i put a geforce3 in mine, told you i'm serious about gaming http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ) if you'd like a good inexpensive choice go with the geforce2 mx400 series, they usually retail around $150 and are todays version of the TNT series. If you look on eBay you'll now find some good deals on the geforce pro's/ultra's; if you choose one of the later go with the ultra-it was nvidias strongest performer until the G3. However, as i stated above the geforce2 mx400 series is more than adequate for the casual gamer.
