Im trying to download windows updates on a customers pc and every time I start IE I get the tiscali dialer pop up asking me to connect using the 56k modem I dont have, even though I have my broadband connection plugged in and working (used broadband to update AV), if I click on "connect" it goes nowhere without the 56k modem, if i click "work off line" it goes nowhere without the modem.

All I get back in the IE window is a message saying "FORBIDDEN access denied check control list, what list and were.

I am logged in as admin

I can run windows updates using IE in safe mode, but its get to the bit after pressing the "Express" buttom and says you need to start windows in normal mode to run updates.

How do I get IE online to update ?

Things tried,
Told modem never dial connection.
In Device manager - Disabled the modem.
Looked in Connections in IE.
Looked in Tidcali.
Looked in Modems in Control Panel.

And get the same message (as above) from all.

Is there some sort of Tiscali software in Add/Remove Programs for you to uninstall?

Why is there a modem showing in Device Manager that you "don't have"?

Have you removed the Tiscali dialup connection from your possible connections?

Yes there is tascali in add/remover but I dont have any software for the right package they are using to reinstallit, and the tascail site is a join here and now thing.

I have the modem internal but not the connection for it, sorry not worded well. (Day before worked on pc with external modem so worded post wrong) :)

No I didnt, didnt know if I needed tascali software to get them back, I did disable them.

Its been a lont time since i`ve work on a pc with a 56k modem.

Try going to Internet options> connections.and removing all the dial up connections. Then click on the lan setting button, and select the obtain setting automatically. Ok you way out, and see if that allows you to connect.

You'll have to go through and make a new connection....

The 'official' MS instructions... here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305549&sd=tech)

And yes, unless you've copied down the info from the existing connection....
