I am thinking about purchasing a color printer for photo quality images at a reasonable price. I've seen both the Canon and the Epson as good printers. Any suggestions or experience with either one? Many thanks! Is there another one anybody recommends?

After running a Desk Jet 400 for 4 years with no problems at all, and a Laser Jet II for over 2 years, purchased used and with no problems, at least until the fuser died...I'll reccomend a Hewlitt Packard every time. The fuser in the laser jet was about 10 years old, I guess it was time for it to give up...The desk jet was also purchased used and it's not by any means the top of the line, and has been excellent.

Canon printers are acceptible, so are Epson, but I don't think either can match the HP. I think we had a topic concerning this same question a while back, seems HP printers got the best comments. That does not mean Epson and Canon are not good printers, they are...

In my experience, Canon printers are pretty good, although their cartridges tend to dry out if the printer is left on for an extended period...

I went with a USB Epson for photo printing and I love it...the pictures look fantastic...either way, I've heard and seen by comparison that Epson photo paper is the best with any printer if you're printing pictures...

I agree with Pete though, HPs are really good (you pay for it too http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif )

I appreciate the advice, even though I decided to purchase the Canon after hours and hours of reading reviews and comparisons. The Canon of course was marketed in response to the photo printers made by Epson. What sold me on the Canon were the positive reviews, reasonable price (Gateway--no tax or shipping), and the fact that the ink tanks are replaceable separately instead of replacing the entire color cartridge as is the case with many inkjets. I should be getting it in a few days and will let all know if the quality holds up as per the reviews.
