Well I have migrated from the troubleshooting forum (old pc fixed - thx!) to this one! I would like to ask all you knowledgable sages out there their opinions on whether to go down the DDR road for my new pc. Basically I intend to buy a Tbird 1.2GHz (120 US Dollars - prices here in Malaysia) with an Iwill Mobo - however I am not sure whether to get the KK266-R or the KA266-R(DDR).At present I can get the DDR version at an extra cost of 50 US dollars and for 256MB of Ram an extra cost of 35 US dollars. As I want to build a system that will be upgradeable again in the future as well as overclockable I would like your opinions! I have read that the DDR route only provides about 10% extra performance? however if a system costs a thousand US dollars then the extra 85 dollars seems worthwhile. I dont know if the rest of the spec is relevant but I intend intalling 30GB hard drive, Geforce2 GTS graphics card and Creative Live Value sound card (have not decided on DVD v CDRW yet). PSU will be a minimum of 300w.

I would go ddr I would think a jump from pc100 to pc2100 or 266mhz would be signficant to purchase it. But pc100 to pc133 would be to little or no a signficance to tell.

IMHO ! I would prefer DDR? I've had no problems with my Athlon 1.2 Ghz T-Bird,Asus MoBo A7A266. Fast/Cheap/Upgradable. Using Pioneer DVD-116 with Intervideo/WinDVD software incl.,along with LG-8120b CD-RW with Adaptec CD-Creator latest ver.. To me that is all i need running with DDR is much consistent specially with the set that just goes along together, matched up perfectly at least...hope things work out well with your soon to be workhorse....Double Data Rate is the IDEA my Friend, that's the road to take when practicality calls.
If you Intend to Upgrade this system in the future
Then by all means get the KA266-R
The price of DDR memory is falling and will continue to fall.
With the Higher speed possibility of the DDR you will be have more room to upgrade.
Using the KK266 the pc133 limits the upgrades you will have available

Check out the new Chipset for Athalon by SIS ...the SIS 730 is in Tom Pabst's opinion (Tom's Hardware), the BEST and fastest chipset available for the new Athalon's.......it is more speed than you will EVER get with DDR (which is VAPorware in my opinion).

Randy, I am confused now - according to Tom's Hardware the SiS 730 chipset cannot beat the KT133 chipset (summary of review created 9th January)and is to be considered for people on a low budget. However he has said that SiS735 reviewed on June 11th (with DDR technology!) is faster than the AMD 760, KT266, KT133a and ALi Magik 1 - is this the chipset you are referring to?

Does anyone know when these new chipsets (I assume the SiS 735!) will be available on the mass market?
