I accidentally got some of the thermal compound that goes in between the processor and the heatsink on a couple of the outer pins of the processor. So did I ruin the processor? If I take it to a computer shop can they do something to fix it? Needless to say I'm really beating myself up for this one and just want to know the honest truth about the result of my stupidity.

You could try sitting the CPU in a shallow pool of 90%+ alcohol to remove the compound... Then wipe it off carefully and use an old toothbrush with alcohol to make sure it is clean... It probably isn't ruined, but will take some cleaning...
