Howdy
I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 570V TFT LCD Monitor to try on a second computer mainly for space saving reasons. I do like it's size and the picture is quite good ( for an LCD anyway). Problem is that all my digital photo's are quite dark even with the brightness turned all the way up. Anyone have any idea if this is something that is typical of LCD monitors. I can exchange it for another one to try with no problem but I don't want to waste my time if this is a typical. I will stick with a CRT monitor if I have to, to get a great picture.

thanks for any comments.

I've never seen this problem with digital photos...LCD monitors don't have quite the same brightness charecteristics of CRTs, but the pictures should look about right, maybe you just notice more because you know the photos should look a particular way...

You may also want to check the configuration settings for your viewing app...some of the more fully featured views/editors allow for different monitor settings and or profiles, some offer gama correction. Also check your video card settings, some offer the capabilities...special corrections for LCD monitors.

thanks for the replies.
I have a HP-M70 crt monitor that the pictures look great on( good brightness and very realistic color. I am using Irfranview for a viewer.
When I change moniytors without changing any settings the LCD monitor is quite dark And the colors are what I would call to rich making the pictures look very fake.

I guess I'll try a few more adjustments before I give up on the space saving idea and go get another good CRT monitor.

I'm not a big fan of the LCD displays anyway. The one on my digital cammera is usless outside.( the camera works great just the LCD is horrible.)

thanks again for anymore comments

Quick report...
I returned the Samsung and tried a ViewSonic LCD with little or no improvement. They were just not doing my pictures justice. Returned the ViewSonic LCD and got a ViewSonic A95f 19" flat panel CRT monitor.
Just one word describes it.... Awesome! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
