My daughter's computer decided that it would no longer get on-line. I could net get an IP address from the router.

Step One: Tried a new network cable. No good.

Step Two: Tried a new cable from the PC to the router, bypassing the jack and the patch panel. No good.

Step Three: Disabled the firewall. No good.

Step Four: Disabled the on board NIC in device manager and installed a PCI NIC card. Worked for about 2 weeks.

Step Five: Scanned for Virus, spyware and trojans. Nothing of consequence.

Step Six: Pulled out the restore disks. Reinstalled to factory specs. Still NO GO.

Cannot get an IP address from the router. All others, wired and wireless work fine. This PC will not get an IP address regardless of it's location.

Anybody have any bright ideas????? I'm fresh out....

Have you tried a different router port? Only thing that comes to mind.

The last thing I would try is to by-pass the router altogether and plug it directly into the modem. Risky, I know, but it's a good trouble-shooting technique. Just don't do it for very long! ;)
