I have a Remote Desktop set up at home, but since I do not keep my pc on all the time is there a softwere that would let me remotely turn on my home computer ?

If your PC supports it you could use a Wake On Lan (WOL) packet.

Wake-On-Ring is rarer but is another way of remotely kicking the pc into life.
