Slow Loading Icons, folder speed

I just recently started getting problems with opening folders. When I open them the icons and files take forever to load making everything really slow. Does anyone know how to fix this?

See if the problem happens in Safe mode. If so, then the HD may be failing. Run the diagnostics at the HD manuf's site.

If it works faster in Safe mode, then update your AV program, and do a virus search. Also, run Ad-aware and Spybot to remove any spyware.
If that does not help, then do a clean boot to find the cause.

I ran safe mode and it didn't happen. Did virus, ad-aware, and spybot, still ahev the problem. What do you mean by clean boot?
