View Full Version : System Checkup (Need a Hijack This check)

I recently had a problem that caused my system to just not respond (except for the desktop toolbar disapearing for about 2 seconds and then reappearing) whenever I tried opening the explorer. The problem was, however, non-existant in safe mode and I was able to get rid of the problem by restoring an earlier system snapshot from there this morning.
Before this problem had started, I was receiving a constant pop-up from a program called 'SysProtect.exe' (an installer) asking to be installed. I don't quite remember how it happened, but eventually it was activated and it claimed to be trying to "scan the system" for unwanted files every now and then. Also, popups for numerous Anti-spyware web pages and a couple adult websites began to appear while I was on internet explorer. During all of this I deleted quite a few unwanted files from Ad-Aware, and a Trojan which my virusscan found, none of which seemed to solve the popup problem.
So I've gone through, updated all of my anti-virus/spyware programs and am going to do a complete scan using them, but I'd just like a quick Hijack this log checkup, because I'm sure I probably have one or two things in there that don't belong.

I only see a couple of things that need to be fixed with HJT...

Open a scan and put checks by:

This one is somewhat suspicious and the info I found on it was not clear... Do you know what it is?? If you didn't install it, it would be a good idea to fix it too:

Once you have checked the ones you choose to fix, close all open windows except HJT and press Fix checked...

Find and delete:

C:\Documents and Settings\Denny\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\81CLUF05\SysProtectScannerInstal l[1].exe

It may be a good idea to download and run CCleaner to clean Temp folders only:

Then also download and run either or both:

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/):

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

Check "Perform action with all infections".

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.


* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:

Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
Close Dr.Web Cureit.
Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.


Reboot again and post the logs here along with a fresh HJT log...
