In 1998, I purchased an IBM Aptiva. I'm looking to upgrade the CPU and while I'm not having any problems locating a processor, I am finding that I don't know much about motherboards and CPU's. I have no idea what I'm doing and judging by the posts I've seen, my best bet seems to be to invest in a new motherboard. I just wanted some advice about what I should do...

Try to post your model it'll help with someone finding and advising you for uprgrading; also visit here (http://www.computergripes.com/index.htm), don't know if you'll find it very informative-but it certianly is humorous! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Welcome Deathweaver! Let your kid brother have the Aptiva. Try to abscond a 'puter that is more Plug n Play compatible. Upgrading an IBM machine can be a real can of worms. Just my .02 and I usually get change back.

I have an aptiva (circa '98) that I poked and proded but upgraded it. Hell, i even over-clocked it.

What are you looking/hoping to use it for? Post some specific info and ideally I can shed some light from my specific experience.
