Do you have the latest chipset drivers? It sounds like a mouse-driven menu error, or perhaps a disk read error, both of which are tied to the chipset drivers. Also, do you have the latest version of DirectX?

Download and install the beta patch first. Also, make sure you have the Nvidia 84.21 drivers installed. Are you using a soundcard?

how much RAM you got installed? to be honest, I have a P4 3Ghz, 2GB RAM, Audigy 2 zs, 6800xt, and I've never had any serious problems with Oblivion. I've only had minor issues that are recurrent in other games. I've noticed a few people have had issues, but I really can't see where. All the Oblivion'ers here have had almost zero issues. Sorry, it isn't much help.

seems to me that this game came out to erally been alot of people haveing problems. For those people, their problems have got to be driver-related or some other issue with Windows or maybe even minor hardware compatibility issues. I can count on one hand the number of times that this game has crashed on my system, and I've logged over 200 hours with it. My friend's system is the same way. I just cannot accept the fact that everyone is blaming the game for problems with their own systems when I have two computers in this room that play it just fine. If it's crashing for you, there has to be another explanation than just a buggy game.
You mentioned your mobo is only a month old. Did you just build yourself a new system or did you upgrade? Tell me the manufacturer and model number of your mobo and I'll get you a link to the correct chipset drivers you should be using.

I'm thinking it's probably a heat issue at this point. How is the airflow & cooling in your case? Are games the only programs that crash?

I dont belive its heat isusse cause the chip runs at around 45oc when the games are runing and mb tem is 42oc noting is over colcked. i have alummis ultra case with 120mm fans. air flow is pretty good. i can run older games well lime f1 200 but not the newer ones. other programs like photoshop and flash run well and dont crash or any thing. this is bugging me i have trayed many things.
thanks so much for the help..
45 is a little high, not too high, but starting to get warm.
But the CPU isn't the only item affected by heat. Are there any other temp sensors in your system?
The video card itself can be getting too hot. What kind of cooling does it have? Northbridge? Hardrive?
Any/all of those components can react poorly to heat build up.
You said you have the latest DirectX, but have you run the dxdiag program? It will show if there are any missing or corrupted DirctX files.

I have the exact same problem as the one who started the thread. My screen is white and it stays white, and when I try to configure the game settings the game crashes.
PC:
Packard Bell| 3.2 Intel Pentium, 1GB DDR Ram, 256MB ATI RADEON 9600 (SUPPORTS DX 9) Anyone have somekind of solution to this ?
