I'm having a problem when I try to install ATI Radeon driver and the monitor went off (monitor green indicator turned to orange). But when using other monitor, there was no problem. My monitor is HP 7550. Looked over the internet, but all i got is Compaq 7550. Are they the same? Is my prob happened because of the driver for the monitor is not installed? Guide me pls..

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

Maybe...monitors don't really need 'drivers' so much as a configuration file that tells the OS its capabilities. Now Plug and Play monitors are supposed to tell the OS exactly what they can do...the only problem is, many of them lie, well not really lie, so much as not tell in enough detail to really be useful. Hence the need to find the specific 'drivers' for a monitor...

Now, HP bought out Compaq several years ago so many products are dual branded...with both the HP and Compaq brand names on them...my question is, do the specs match? Is you monitor a 17 in, etc?

If so you could probably upgrade the generic PnP monitor that is probably showing up in Device Manager to the Compaq file and have somewhat more control over the resolutions/refresh rates...which is probably your problem.

Your monitor is not liking the resolution or the refresh rate that the drivers for the video card are coming up with.

You can either use the Compaq files or use the monitor that works correctly and set the resolution to something like 640 x 480 and 60Hz then switch monitors and work your way up to something a bit more useful than that.

Is the video card new, or just a different driver?
Which O/S are you using?
