Ok, i'm not sure if this is 100% the right place for me to post this but anyway...

I've been playin all sort of games lately and my comp laggs in all of them exactly the same way, 15secs no lagg then 5secs major lagg. I've been trying to play Need for speed most wanted, Rainbow six lockdown, CoD2. And what really amazes me is that i'm allso playing Operation flashpoint that has requirements of Pentium 700, 256 mb ram and this game even laggs....

So what i'm asking is, is there any kind of test online i can do to see the performance of my computer or some kind of diagnostics or anything... because it's not only games, it's allso movie clips that i try to watch, the picture stops but sound still goes, then the picture comes after with a speed of x10000 (hehe gotta admit it looks funny when it fast fast fast forwards :p ) but still annoying.

Pleas help, anything is appriciated
~~Cheers~~

my specs are: P4 2,4ghz. 768mb Ram. 90gig HD. Chaintech FX-5600-XT 256mb

Sounds like a driver issue. Is this a new problem or one that happened suddenly? How old is your system? Have you done any upgrades since you first got it?

Try open your Task Manager and have a check on 'performance', go to cpu usage. See how many percent it is using. Normally it is 0 to 1 if you are doing nothing. If it's showing a big ammount even you're doing nothing, you might having some adware or spyware infection. If it's just being normal, seems like what saphalline had said, it could be driver problem.

it's pretty new, i'm guessing about 2-3 weeks (this issue). My comp hasn't been uppgraded for about 1 and half year, but operation flashpoint was working perfectly after that uppgrade, now it seems that everything has the exact same lagg, even videos.
last week i tried playing Ghost Recon Advanced.. something, and it required me to d-load lots of drivers. so i got all drivers for my soundcard (wich is btw Audigy 2, forgot to mention that) and all drivers for my graphics card. Maybe there was something i shouldn't have taken down?

And the PU usage is kinda hoppy, between 0-5%, then suddenly 22,33,100% for a while

a follow-up. follow chrisling's suggestion first. I also suspect lagging games is a result of malware stabbing us in the back

And the PU usage is kinda hoppy, between 0-5%, then suddenly 22,33,100% for a whileThis line pretty much says it all. There's no reason a freshly-booted system with nothing running should be spiking like this. Something nasty got into your system. Find it and kill it!!

You may want to open a new thread in the Security section of the forums, link to this one, and post a HiJackThis! log. The experts (Budfred) will then be able to help you out.
