I found a free alternitive for Zone Alarm. Sygate Personal Firewall (http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/3000-2092-8593035.html?tag=lst-0-1)

Sygate Personal Firewall is a bi-directional intrusion-defense system for your personal computer. It ensures that your computer is protected from hackers and other intruders while preventing unauthorized programs on your computer from accessing the network. Sygate Personal Firewall makes machines invisible to the outside world. It works on computers connected to a private network or the Internet. This program assures that your business, personal, financial, and other data is safe and secure.
The previous version added a new message console for viewing security logs, improves VPN support, and improves the firewall engine performance. This update adds support for Windows XP. Sygate Personal Firewall is free for home use.
I have been using a version of this for about 6 months (came with Ontrack System Suite 4.0). It seams to work very well although I can't test it very well because I'm behind a hardware firewall. It does keep Win XP from phoning home every time you connect to the internet.
