Wow! How much did that thing weigh? Those big ones are fun to catch, but they're not very good for eating. Years ago my dad caught a big one--it wasn't that big, but it was pretty big. So he had it smoked, but it still wasn't good eating--that is unless you like to eat grease. :)

PrntRhd, you know Clearlake don't you? Beautiful place right now. They have giants in there. Someone told me today that the lake catfish record is 47# but I think I heard bigger before. 50+# carp, 15+# bass, caught some 1+# bluegil and crappie today.
FrankSG, we think she was between 27 and 30# No scale that big on hand :( but she broke though a large net twice before I climbed a small fence and hung over the side of a rock seawall to grab her. Fishing from a dock has it's drawbacks

Maybe you should try noodling (http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/general/columns/story?columnist=sutton_keith&page=g_col_sutton_noodling)...

Yeah really, that's totally nuts!
I just came back from a weekend in Kentucky and will be going back next weekend. I will have to look at the local folk and see if there are any scares on their arms. :p

Maybe it's not that catfish noodlers are crazy; maybe they're drunk. You know, like the old saying: Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day; teach him how to fish, and he'll spend all day at the lake drinking beer. ;)

We call "noodling" logging where I live. I have some friends that go logging for catfish on the Wabash River in Indiana. I haven't went with them, I can't seem to find my "sign" and would feel out of place without one. :D One of them is missing part of his right arm (from the elbow down) from a fishing accident involving dynamite. Another one has what looks like a .22 caliber bullet wound on his thigh from getting horned by a 45 pound Flathead.
